As Everyone is publishing their recommendations of the Artists to watch for in 2011, I thought I would do a Kwa.me Blog recommendation as this site’s primary focus is upcoming artists. I will attempt to get a definitive Top Ten of Artists and groups to look out for and although some will be ones you have already come across I will attempt to include a few I expect that other Publications may have missed.

1. Labrinth – Ok So he broke before 2011 but judging from the fact he has been drafted in to work on Britney’s Album for 2011 and he has been working with every major UK Pop and Urban Act on the Scene there is going to be a lot of Labrinth productions and features surfacing in Twenty11, including his own album + his Street Beats Album which at a guess will be featuring everyone.

2. Ed Sheeran – Pretty Obvious choice but only because they dude is so damn talented it would be foolish to ignore him, with his No.5 Collaborations E.P having beaten Rihanna in the iTunes Album charts he has already made a strong start to 2011 and with the Grime and Pop scene insiders all firmly behind him this one is going to be the must watch story for the New Year.

3. Nero – With an album due early in the new year and gigs scheduled through January to April these dudes are on course to becoming the next dubstep crossover smashers. With a slew of hot releases and remixes behind them 2011 is set to be large for these MTA boys.

4. Breakage – 2010 was a pretty big year for James ‘Breakage’ Boyle with the release of what I would claim is the most definitive dubstep album to date ‘Foundation’. It seems that, that wasn’t enough for him and after a slew of epic remixes, he steps into 2011 with a single release which looks to be what might be a potential ‘Crossover’ sound but with little compromise on that beauty of Breakage Bass.

5. Engine Earz – Prashant Mistry and his troop of skilled Musicians present what can only be best described as the Bastard child of Dubstep and Electronica with Live instruments but even that description doesn’t do them justice as they leave no genre un pilfered and shoe horned into their sound. If you haven’t seen these guys go watch them they will blow your pants off.

6. Jessie J – Another obvious one as you can’t do a 2011 list without including one of the most awesome vocalists to come out of the UK, but after seeing what this girl can do with her voice plus a rumoured call up to write for the Princess of Pop (Yup Britney Spears again) I dare anyone to say 2011 won’t be the year of Jessie J.

7. Chasing Pluto – Jamal Hadaway & Corine Shields are an awesome vocal duo and have a sound in the vein of Classic 80’s group Human League’s ‘Don’t you want me’ however they take that and run with it as Jamal’s productions are truely epic creations and Corine has that beautiful tone that will send chills down you spine.

8. P Money – Already one of the Legends of the Grime Scene, P Money has now become the MC of choice for the Dubstep scene with big tunes like the ‘Ho! Riddim’, ‘Slang Like This’ and ‘Left the room’ under his belt. P has proved himself to not only be a dexterous wordsmith but also a master story teller just listen to his collaboration with Ed Sheeran ‘Family’ where he tells you about his car crash. This is the MC I’m most excited about.

9. Maxsta – Max is the next generation of East London grime MC and when he spits you can tell he comes straight from the heart of Grime’s Ground Zero. This boy is overly nang and he is not just riding off the fact that he’s an East Ham boy but backs it up with bare bars and Mixtapes. With his cohorts Big Shizz, Shrimpoz and Stelf this is going to be a big year for the East London Crew.

10.Die Antwoord – When I first saw Die Antwoord my initial reaction was holy s**t how the hell did this happen. It shouldn’t work but it does and thats just the music its like a Ol’Skool Hip Hop, Electro, Crunk, Afrikans, Tech House Mash Up done by the South African equivalent of Hill Billies and I’m fascinated everytime because Ninja is a Sick lyricist even with his dark and twisted subject matter and Yolandi Visser is like a hot crackhead singing like an angel on second or spitting the sickest lyrics. These guys are my wildcard just because they are so out there but I’ m seriously excited about this group.
