Sorry dudes in a bid to get my new project Loudsurf up and running I have been a bit late with the posts. I have just got round to listening to the ‘Sober EP’ by the lovely Elli Ingram and I have to say it has been a delightful experience.
Elli burst on to the scene when she flipped Kendrick Lamar’s Poetic Justice into a jazz tinged retro R&B head nodder. As a follow up you could call ‘Sober’ a full on 90’s R&B Revial EP, tracks like ‘Mad Love’ and ‘Elliot’ are steeped in retro horns and samples.

My personal favourite however is when Elli goes all 2013 R&B on ‘High Love’ with it’s double time hats and pitched down vocals breaking down into a sax soaked bridge and going all down low and sultry.
With ‘Fun’ Elli’s vocals shine over piano and strings in her tale of the morning after a night of getting wasted.
The EP concludes with the track that Elli made her mark with ‘Poetic Justice’ and hearing it again after some time off, I appreciate it so much more. I can only say it is in my opinion one of the perfect cover versions second only to the Naughty Boy cover of ‘Get Lucky‘.
